Bon Scott’s (former AC/DC singer) rapacious sexual appetite meant no woman was off the menu, perhaps explaining his decision to bed down with an obese Tasmanian groupie at a Sydney motel in 1975. Rather than play down the incident, Scott later celebrated it on Whole Lotta Rosie (”she ain’t exactly pretty / ain’t exactly small / 42-39-56 / you could say she got it all…”).

Il bramoso appetito sessuale di Bon Scott (deceduto cantante degli AC/DC) significava non eliminare alcuna donna. Forse questo spiega la sua decisione di portarsi a letto un’obesa groupie tasmaniana in un motel di Sydney nel 1975. Anziché minimizzare l’incidente, Scott lo celebrò più tardi su Whole Lotta Rosie (”non è esattamente carina / non è esattamente minuta / 106-99-142 / potresti dire che ha tutto”)

24 December 1976: with the Anarchy Tour over, The Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Heartbreakers return to London. Joe Strummer: “When I got back to London, I felt awful. I was really destroyed because, after a few days, you got used to eating. We were eating Holiday Inn rubbish but it was two meals a day. When I got off the coach we had no money. I felt twice as hungry as before. I had nowhere to live and I remember walking away from the coach deliberately not putting on my woolly jumper. I walked all the way up Tottenham Court Road and it was really cold but I wanted to get as cold and miserable as I could. I just felt like it was the worst thing in the world that the tour had ended”

24 dicembre 1976: con la fine dell’Anarchy Tour, i Sex Pistols, i Clash e gli Heatbreakers tornano a Londra. Joe Strummer: ” Quando tornai a Londra mi sentii malissimo. Ero davvero distrutto perchè dopo alcuni giorni ti abitui a mangiare. Mangiavamo cibo spazzatura dell’Holiday Inn, ma erano pur sempre due pasti al giorno. Quando scendemmo dal bus non avevamo soldi. Mi sentii due volte più affamato di prima. Non avevo nessun posto dove vivere e ricordo di essermi incamminato dal bus deliberatamente senza il mio maglione di lana addosso. Camminai per tutta Tottenham Court Road e faceva veramente freddo, ma volevo sentirmi il più infreddolito e miserabile possibile. Sentii proprio come se la fine del tour fosse la cosa peggiore al mondo”

3 December 1976, Norwich University: the first date on the Sex Pistols / The Clash / The Damned / The Heartbreakers Anarchy Tour, is cancelled, so the bands drive straight to the Crest Hotel, Derby. Joe Strummer: “All that business on the Pistols tour. I hated it. I HATED it! It was the Pistols’ time. We were in the background. The first few nights were terrible. We were just locked up in a hotel room with the Pistols, doing nothing”

3 dicembre 1976, Norwich University: la prima data dell’Anarchy Tour con Sex Pistols, Clash, Damned e Heartbreakers viene cancellata, perciò i gruppi si dirigono direttamente al Crest Hotel, a Derby. Joe Strummer (cantante e chitarrista dei Clash): “Tutto quel business sul tour dei Pistols. Lo odiavo. Lo ODIAVO! Era il momento dei Pistols e noi stavamo nelle retrovie. Le prime notti furono terribili: eravamo proprio bloccati in una stanza d’albergo coi Pistols, senza fare niente”

On the 18th of June 1977, Johnny Rotten is attacked and injured by a razor-wielding gang when he leaves The Pegasus pub in North London. Bill Price (Sex Pistols’ engineer/producer): “We were probably marked down for attack when Johnny Rotten was recognised in the pub. As we left, the gang - about nine men, all in their 30s - pounced, waving razors and knives and aiming for Johnny. They cut his face and arm but didn’t do any serious damage”

Il 18 giugno 1977 Johnny Rotten viene aggredito e ferito da una gang armata di rasoio quando sta lasciando il Pegasus pub nel nord di Londra. Bill Price (produttore/ingegnere dei Sex Pistols): “Fummo probabilmente scelti per l’attacco quando Johnny Rotten venne riconosciuto nel pub. Quando stavamo andandocene la gang (circa 9 uomini tutti all’incirca di 30 anni) ci piombò addosso, maneggiando rasoi e coltelli e puntando Johnny. Gli tagliarono il viso e un braccio, ma non fecero danni seri”

In the grand list of truly weird ways to pop your clogs, being accidentally run over by a legendary rock drummer must surely figure in the Top 20. Sadly, this is the fate that befell Neil Boland, chauffeur to rock icon Keith Moon, on 4 January 1970. After attending a disco in Hatfield, of all places, the Who’s outrageous percussionist was attacked by a group of local skinheads who had taken a dislike to him. Amid the confusion of Moon and Boland’s bid to escape the scuffle, Boland got out Moon’s Bentley to protect the car but left it in gear. As Keith desperately tried to halt the vehicle’s advance, he hit his chauffeur. Absolved of blame by the subsequent inquest, Moon was nevertheless wracked by the guilt for the rest of his life.

Nella lunga lista di modi veramente strambi di morire, essere investiti da un leggendario batterista rock deve sicuramente figurare nella Top 20. Tristemente, questo è il destino che accadde a Neil Boland, autista dell’icona rock Keith Moon, il 4 gennaio 1970. Dopo una serata in disco ad Hatfield, di tutti i posti, l’oltraggioso percussionista degli Who fu attaccato da un gruppo di skinheads che avevano cominciato a trovarlo antipatico. In mezzo alla confusione nel tentativo di sottrarsi alla mischia, Boland uscì dalla Bentley di Moon per proteggere la macchina lasciandola in marcia. Mentre Keith disperatamente cercava di fermare l’avanzata del veicolo, investì il suo autista. Assolto nella conseguente inchiesta, Moon fu tuttavia tormentato dal senso di colpa per il resto della sua vita.
